Movie Review: The Train

Last night I finally watched The Train. My brother had blogged about it a while back and I put it on my Netflix list and I guess I had moved it up my Que.

Well anyway The Train, has Burt Lancaster staring as a Paris train worker, he's supposedly French (has a NY accent I thought;)) The basic premise is that it is during the last days of World War II and the Germans are trying to get all of this impressive Art out of France and into Germany by train.

I have watched a few films set during world war II but nothing that was made during the 1960's. I thought all the actors did a great job but no one else was as noticeable as Burt Lancaster. One of the better ones I have seen is Black Book of a Jewish Woman who stays in Holland during World War II and assists in the resistance.

Postcard from Slovenia

Here is a postcard from Slovenia. You may not know but I am Slovenian. My great grandfather came over from the former Yugoslavia and settled in Chicago. Whenever I get a postcard from Slovenia they always tell me that Volk is a common name there and that it means wolf. As well, as did I happen to know that.

This postcard has pictures of many of the towns in the country. I would like to go see the country for myself one day.

Postcard from London

Here is one from Trafalgar Square. I like the variety of postcards I get from postcrossing. I can only think of a few that I just didn't like.

Postcard from Germany

I'm a big fan of architecture. Here is a postcard I got from the city of Chemnitz in Germany. I like the variety of the buildings.

Postcard From Finland

Some of my favorite postcards from Finland are done by a Finish artist, named Kaj Stenvall. They all feature a duck. Much like Donald Duck. Here is one I got sent by a 9 yr old postcrossing participant.

Movie Review: Paris, Je T'aime

I watched the movie Paris, Je T'aime. It was a collection of short films set in Paris. Mostly love stories.

Many writers, directors and actors were involved. The Steve Buscemi short was different. You'll have to see it. I liked the one with Natalie Portman. Some I didn't much like. But I think overall I liked the collection.

Movie Review: In to the Wild

I watched "Into the Wild" last night. (thanks to Netflix)

This movie is based on a true story. Basically what happens is Christopher graduates from College and decides he wants to go Into the Wild. He is focused on getting to Alaska for much of the film. He learns from people he meets on the road especially with hunting and preserving game.

The movie has breathtaking views of Alaska, Arizona, and California. The movie is directed by Sean Penn. Vince Vaughn appears along with William Hurt, Catherine Keener, Hal Holbrook, Marcia Gay Harden and Emile Hirsch.

Moving on with the Job Search

The hearing went well with the Judge. They sided with me. So I will continue to get unemployment so that is a relief. Now I just need to find a job. Continuing to take classes at the Workforce Center. What a great resource! I wish I had known about the center when I first moved to the Twin Cities.

What I Saw When Walking with Gadget Yesterday

Well when I was walking Gadget earlier in the week I spied a deer on the path. Who then spotted us and jumped across the path into the valley.

Well when I was walking Gadget I spotted the deer in the Valley area off the path again. I tried to get a good shot but I didn't do too well as you can see below.

21 Movie Review

Watched 21 with a college friend and her husband on Saturday night after Phelps won his 8Th Olympic Gold medal! Wow.

Now on to the movie.
This movie is based on a true story. 21 is about a bunch of MIT (geniuses) students and one teacher who basically win lots of money in Vegas playing you got it blackjack.

In the movie you learn how they count cards and use spotters to win big.

yes some of the story isn't realistic... how can you still get a 4.0 and spend the weekend gambling and doing no work?

I don't want to say too much about the movie since there are some plot twists but it was an enjoyable movie. I liked Kevin Spacey and Laurence Fishburne in it. Kate Bosworth is also in the movie, She was OK. I did like her disguises though. The other actors I hadn't recognized.

Is this the best movie I ever saw? No. But it was enjoyable. I laughed and that was enough.

Goal for Saturday

The Goal was to take some pictures of some butterflies that I have seen on a trail while walking Gadget. Well I tried to take pictures of those butterflies but they were too fast for me. So instead I have a picture of a happy dog to share instead.

Gadget likes that I am interested in taking her out for a few walks.

I am a Jane Austen Heroine

I am Elinor Dashwood!

New Blog New Plan

I thought with this new blog I would post first about www.postcrossing.com.
Its a free site. You sign up to exchange postcards with people around the world. The basic premise is you send at most 5 postcards at one time. Once your postcards are received you get a postcard from a different member. Now you can also receive postcards from people from the same country.

Its a bit addicting or at least for me. I like to get the cards in the mail and now I display them in my home office. In wall hanging frames that I purchased from Urban Outfitters. If interested you can see it here.

Here is one look at some of my collection.

The only problem is that the Urban Outfitter frames only work with postcards that are 4x6 and many are larger. Some I do cut down now. But others seem to nice to do that too.

Need some sorta crafty idea or project to use those over sized postcards. Any Ideas?
